Hey guys, it’s Kent here. Lately, I’ve been wearing my fingers to nubbins for the sake of our absolutely loyal, wouldn’t ever dream of unsubscribing fan base. What I, personally, have been working on is the iOS app.
We redesigned the song information page to be all nice and shiny with white buttons and stuff. Also, it has a nifty little drop shadow to show you that there’s more information to see by scrolling down. Also, the white buttons turn more grayish-blackish in dark mode. They look really nice. That’s mostly because Kirby has nitpicked every pixel and hounded every little detail. I like Kirby because he makes sure the apps don’t become steaming heaps of garbage over time.
Another great feature which we’ve decided to introduce is free song search. We decided to implement this on… hang on a moment, I have to look this up… on Sunday, December 15, 2024.That’s right, it’s taken us four (4) months to finally implement this feature. The story of how I finally convinced the others that this was an extremely brilliant idea is one for the history books.
It started off with Kirby having the light-bulb moment [he pointed out that he was the one, not me] and then dismissing it as too much free. After discussing it, we agreed to disagree. Then, an unknown amount of time later, on December 14, 2024, the following exchange occurred.
Kent: “I am going to nag you all again about free song search for all”
Kirby: “I am going to vehemently resist again.”
The rest of the conversation is lost to the mists of time, (not really but the rest of it isn’t really relevant) but, suffice it to say, we decided to do it. You see, the thing is that it’s a great decision for absolutely everyone involved. It’s a no-brainer for us, because it makes Stanza the app you go to for song search, and prompts you to “subscribe to view song” if you haven’t already. It’s a no-brainer for you, because all you have to do is search to quickly see what book a song is in. I’m amazed it took so long for me to convince the others that it was a great idea.
We have also been working on importing all—or at least most of the public domain hymns we can find at pdhymns.com (huge thanks to Mr. N. B. Chumbley for generously allowing us to use his catalog). Trevor has also been working on projector lists for Android, followed by the things Android needs for free song search.
I would type more but my fingers can’t reach the keys.
One more thing, actually, I have to tell you that Stanza for iOS 1.4.0 is already available for download on the App Store.
