Hey everyone, we’ve been busy doing all kinds of things over at Stanza Music. Among all the other 10 jobs that we collectively have, we’ve been hard at work bringing you Stanza 2.0. Some of this you’ve already seen in share links, but expect even more of the Stanza Segno in your future.
Another thing you may or may not have noticed is all the cool new (and old) songs we’ve added. We’ve struck a deal with Capitol CMG and I think it’s safe to say they are happy to work with us. More deals with other companies are on the way! From Albert E. Brumley to Matt Redman, the Stanza app is not quite yet your oyster, but boy, is it sure getting there!
Some upcoming things from the Stanza App iOS Edition:
- We’ve got that new Liquid Glass interface, just like everyone else. Apple says you get a year, so we’re squeaking by with 9 months to spare.
- We’re adding a new QR code scanner for faster sharing with your friends from app to app.
- Print Credits: You will see your print credit balance double upon installing Stanza 2.0. This is coupled on our servers with a devaluing of print credits from ten cents to five. You will continue to earn credits at five per month and sixty per year.
- Songs administered by Capitol CMG and other companies that charge more per copy than our standard rate will be printable.
Speaking of copyright, when you buy prints (soon to be print credits), you aren’t buying the PDF, you are buying the right to use a copy of the song from the copyright holder. Think of us as a “copyright broker” of sorts. Trust me, I’ve done it before, and it is a royal pain to do it. You have to track down every copyright holder, every different administrator, and pay them what they want to be paid.
For every song in Stanza’s database, we take care of all of that for you. Are you printing a (non-commercial) songbook for use in church worship? We will log that print information and pay the copyright holder for that usage. So, if you tell us you print one copy, and actually print two hundred, you are–how do I put this delicately–robbing the copyright holder (not Stanza) of one hundred ninety-nine copies’ worth of royalties.
This matter does have a real-world impact on the songs which we are able to add to Stanza, as copyright holders are interested in protecting their copyrights. So, do the right thing so that we can all flourish together.
OK, now that I’ve guilt-tripped everyone, that means that we’re all good, right? Great. We would like to announce something else in this post as well. The Stanza Song Drive. This is less like a song storage and more like a blood drive. If you have “rare” sheet music that you’ve had a bear of a time trying to find, and would like to share it with us, please send it to us at support@stanzamusic.org or if you go to stanzamusic.org/contact, you can WhatsApp it directly to one of us at Stanza.
Our intent with such music is to typeset or find nice copies, track down the copyright holders, and list it for everyone and their mother to use.
Until next time!
